The Mercedes A35 AMG Eventuri intake has been developed to provide the turbo with a less restrictive flow path while maintaining low inlet temperatures. Reducing heat absorption and increasing internal volume are the main considerations when designing a 'aspiration for turbocharged engines.

In the A35 the intake system is in close proximity to the exhaust manifold which quickly absorbs heat into the engine bay. High temperatures are detrimental to engine performance as the turbo is expected to create boost with heated, less dense air and so the only way to ensure IATs are kept to a minimum is with a fully sealed intake. To reduce the restriction from a sealed intake we have increased the volume of the airbox by repositioning the ECU and also allowing an opening in the airbox on the cold side which is away from the direct heat of the manifold. The carbon inlet pipe has a larger internal volume with an initial internal diameter of 111mm (4.4") that tapers gently downwards to match the turbo inlet pipe. Finally we use a custom made high flow dry filter that is ISO tested for filtration performance and has a larger filter surface area than the stock filter.
Dyno Testing
Dyno testing was carried out by MSL Performance, a UK-based Mercedes specialist. A completely standard A35 AMG was tested with the stock airbox and then the Eventuri intake, one after the other, ensuring the external conditions were the same. As can be seen below, the intake provides a performance gain across the entire rpm range. The highlighted point shows a significant power gain where the intake allows for a greater flow rate into the higher rpm range, where the stock airbox starts to become a restriction. The resulting gains are evident on the road with improved throttle response and acceleration times. With a tuned A35 we would expect even better gains as the turbo demands increase.
The Eventuri A35 intake system is made up of a series of components designed to perform a specific purpose and manufactured to the highest standards. We use 100% pre-preg carbon fibre with no fibreglass, which means we can achieve a smooth internal surface to maintain a smoother airflow. Here are the details for each component and the design ethos behind them:
Each intake system consists of:
Carbon Fiber Airbox
Made from pre-preg carbon fiber, the airbox has two purposes: to seal the filter from the heat of the engine bay and to provide a dual feed of cold air. As the airbox is positioned next to the exhaust manifold, it is vital that the filter is sealed, so we have designed the airbox to encapsulate the filter while providing a large internal volume. The intake tube passes through a rubber gasket in the airbox that prevents hot air from entering. By repositioning the ECU, we were able to increase the height of the airbox to maximize volume and therefore allows us to use a larger filter.
Having a completely sealed airbox comes with the problem of having a restriction for cold air intake. The stock airbox draws air from a single duct through a rubber section that also has multiple ridges. Our design eliminates this rubber section and therefore provides a smoother cold air intake path. Additionally, to de-restrict the intake, we added a cutout on the cold side of the airbox near the hood latch that allows the filter to draw in additional air.
Cone Filter on size
Our cone filter is made of a double layer non-woven mesh material and is ISO tested to ensure filtration meets OEM standards. The filter is cleanable and very stable at high temperatures with the urethane base material. The filter incorporates an internal flow guide cone to help the airflow converge while reducing the possibility of a stagnation point in the center of the filter space. The filter medium has a significantly larger surface volume than the standard panel filter. style="vertical-align:inherit;">
